What we collect
We collect only what we need to sell you a seat and run a safe class.
When you book a class or buy a gift certificate:
Your name and email address
Your phone number
The names of the people attending with you
Any food allergies or dietary restrictions you tell us about
The class, date, and number of seats you booked
When you pay: payment is processed by Stripe. We never receive or store your full card number. We see only the last four digits, the card brand, and a payment reference, which we use to identify your booking and to issue refunds.
When you visit our website: our website provider, Squarespace, collects standard technical information such as your IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and referring site, using cookies and similar technologies. This is used to keep the site working and to understand which pages people visit.
When you contact us: whatever you include in your email or message.
We do not collect Social Security numbers, government ID numbers, or financial account numbers. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Why we use it
To confirm your booking and send you the class date, time, and location
To send reminders before your class
To prepare food that is safe for you to eat, based on the allergies and dietary restrictions you tell us
To process payments, issue refunds, and keep records of transactions
To answer your questions and handle cancellations or rescheduling
To send our monthly class newsletter, if you have opted in
To meet our tax, accounting, and legal obligations
A note on allergy and dietary information
We ask about food allergies and dietary restrictions so our chef can prepare your food safely. We use this information only for that purpose. We do not use it for marketing, we do not build profiles from it, and we do not share it outside the people preparing and serving your meal.
Who we share it with
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
We use a small number of service providers who process information on our behalf:
Acuity Scheduling (Squarespace Inc.) — our booking system and website host
Stripe, Inc. — payment processing
Google Workspace — our email
Each of these providers has its own privacy and security commitments and may only use your information to provide their service to us.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety of our customers, staff, or business.
How we protect it
We do not store, process, or transmit card data ourselves. All payments are handled by Stripe, a PCI DSS Level 1 certified provider. Card numbers never touch our systems or our staff. The information we do hold lives in our Acuity Scheduling and Stripe accounts. Both encrypt data in transit and at rest. We do not run our own servers or maintain a separate customer database.
Access is limited to the business owner and the small number of staff who need it to run classes. Those accounts are protected by strong, unique passwords and two-factor authentication. Our website and booking pages are served over HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by Oregon law.
How long we keep it
We keep booking and payment records for as long as needed to run the business and to meet tax and accounting requirements, generally seven years. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Allergy and dietary information is kept with the booking record it belongs to.
Your choices
Email newsletter. Our newsletter is opt-in. Every message includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also email us to be removed. Unsubscribing does not affect the confirmation and reminder emails for a class you have booked.
Access, correction, and deletion. You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email claire@cookingwithcompanypdx.com and we will respond within 30 days. We may need to keep certain transaction records to meet our legal obligations.
Cookies. You can set your browser to refuse cookies. Some parts of the site and booking system may not work properly if you do.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the Oregon Consumer Privacy Act or the California Consumer Privacy Act. We honor these requests regardless of where you live.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the updated version here and change the effective date at the top.
